Oostelijke Handelskade 4 (311 86 86). map
Housed in a former Port Authority building slightly out of city center in the popular Docklands area, Panama combines a bar, a restaurant and a hip club/theatre. The restaurant itself is a roomy affair, with large windows, high ceilings and subdued stylish decoration, though service can be a bit lackluster. The club has a varied program during the weekends, and the nice outdoor terrace deserves a special mention.

Open daily 11am-1am.

Rain
Rembrandtplein 44 (626 70 78).
  map
Hip club-bar-restaurant, with a tasteful interior with lots of dark wood and bamboo. Downstairs is cocktail bar and dance floor, with right behind the bar the Comfortable Dining Area, where you can enjoy a snack or a light meal. Upstairs is the Main Dining Room, with a fashionable East-meets-West style international cuisine. Loungy, jazzy tunes on weekdays, during the weekend the music picks up a little with a bit of hip-hop and house thrown in.
Open daily 6pm-2am (4am weekends).

Supper Club
Jonge Roelensteeg 21 (344 64 00). map
A trendy three-in-one; restaurant, bar and lounge. The downstairs bar is entirely done up in red, and the lounge is overwhelmingly white (think milkbar from Clockwork Orange). Apart from being the most popular days, Fridays and Saturdays are also the most spectacular with live music and DJ's.
Open daily 8pm-close.

Wolvenstraat 23
Wolvenstraat 23 (320 08 43). map
Hip city center bar, good for breakfast, lunch, dinner and general lounging. Appropriate '70s meets the new century' decor and tunes, with a public to match. The eats are mostly Asian in origin, with the usual modern twist of course.

Open daily 8am-1am (weekends 9am-2am).

Zebra Lounge
Korte Leidse Dwarsstraat 14 (489 55 00). map
Controversial but stylish club near the Leidseplein. The Zebra Lounge was the first bar in Amsterdam to stage pole dancers. The poles had to go, but the dancers remain. Two dance floors, several bars and the availability of private booths create a luxurious and exclusive atmosphere. If you want a private booth you'll have to make advance reservations.
Open Wed-Sun 10pm-2am (3am weekends).
