De Huyschkaemer Utrechtsestraat 137 (627 05 75). Small split-level bar-restaurant with a modern interior, featuring an expansive tile mosaic behind the bar and furniture designed by the owner himself. Though this used to be a gay bar, nowadays the Huyschkamer caters to a mixed, young and arty crowd. Small outdoor terrace during summer. Open 4pm-1am (3am weekends).  [1 review, 1/10]       Kingfisher Ferdinand Bolstraat 24 (671 23 95). Small hip bar in 'Pijp' neighborhood, very popular with locals, with an informal laid-back atmosphere and matching staff. Can get crowded, especially during weekends. Daily inexpensive but mostly delicious dinner special. Situated on a corner with an outside terrace during summer which makes for great people-watching. Open 11am-1am Mon-Thu, 11am-3am Fri-Sat.  [1 review, 8/10]

Lime Zeedijk 104 (639 3020). Trendy bar in the Nieuwmarkt area, with a modern minimalist interior. DJ's and cocktails makes this an excellent spot to while away some time. Popular so can get quit crowded later in the evening. Open 5pm-1am (3am weekends).  [2 reviews, avg 8/10]         Lux Marnixstraat 403 (422 14 12). Popular bar near Leidseplein, with DJ's during the weekends. Lux caters to a slightly more alternative public than neighboring Weber, though quite a few people hop back and forth between the two bars. Packed solid after midnight on Friday and Saturday. Open 8pm-3am (4am weekends).  [7 reviews, avg 9/10]

Het Schuim Spuistraat 189 (638 93 57). A large bar-restaurant in the renovated Spuistraat. Very popular with twenty-something creatives. Comfortable chairs and sofa's from which to enjoy the large selection of vodkas and coffees. Kitchen with standard bar-restaurant fare at modest prices. Open daily 11am-1am. Kitchen 6pm-10pm.  [4 reviews, avg 10/10]         Suzy Wong Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 45 (626 67 69). Cocktail bar by owners of famed Jimmy Woo. Interior is an eclectic mix of Parisian and far East ingredients, aimed at creating a shabby/chic nightclub type atmosphere. A favorite spot of course for the hip & trendy. Open daily 7pm-1am, 5pm-3am weekends.  [1 review, 9/10]

Weber Marnixstraat 397 (622 99 10). Weber is a narrow split level bar with a fashionable mix-and-match interior; Art Deco lighting, tile mosaics and walls clad with furs. Youngish public, popular place for a drink after visiting one of the surrounding Leidseplein cinemas or theaters. Gets crowded during weekends.
