Review

Very relaxed atmosphere, despite (or thanks to?) the fact that the barkeepers are not too professional... The bar is named after the popular Dutch writer, teacher, educationalist, trade union leader and socialist politician Theo Thijssen (1879-1943). His statue stands in front of the café. Thijssen's most famous book is 'Kees de jongen' (Kees, the boy). Alas there is no English translation yet (only of some fragments: see http://members.tripod.com/~theothijssen). There also exist in the Jordaan quarter a small Theo Thijssen Museum: Eerste Leliedwarsstraat 16 (between Bloemgracht & Egelantiersgracht, near café De Reiger). Open Thu-Sun 12 a.m.-5 p.m.
